By Neil Warner

I recently received an interesting eBook to review which is about how to deal with conflicts in any relationship, including marriage. At first glance the title “Positive Conflicts” seemed a strange use of the two words because it is hard to think of conflicts as positive but after reading this book I understood exactly what it means.

Most people know that a positive and negative charge in science attract, but not so with people with different thoughts and stances.

When couples have a different opinion about something, they are usually stubborn and ignorant and generally care only for their own concerns. Arguments result from the unwillingness to listen to each other and discuss the problem at hand. The bigger the difference between the two, the more explosive the clash becomes.

Unless you like a bit of an argument to spice up your day, I suggest reading the following review about approaches and techniques for managing arguments and how to resolve them.

Here I will go through each chapter and give a quick summary of what topics are covered in each of them.

Chapter One:

  • Why People Act Like They Do.
  • What Makes People Come Into Conflict With Each Other.
  • The Kind of Situations Where Conflict Can Occur..
  • What You Really Need To Know About Conflict.

Chapter Two :

  • Do You Really Think You Can Avoid Conflict?
  • Why Conflict Is Inevitable.
  • Why Life Changes Can Create Conflict In A Relationship.
  • What is the Relationship between Change and Conflict?
  • Why Conflict can be a Positive Thing.

Chapter Three:

  • Understanding the Dynamics of Conflict.
  • Why Conflicts Escalate and Get Out of Hand..
  • How our Mental Models of the World Trap Us.
  • Why our Brains are Hard-Wired For Conflict.
  • Learn How To Be A Good “Enemy”.

Chapter Four:

  • A Positive Definition of Conflict.
  • Why People Initiate Conflict.
  • The Definition of Destructive Conflict.
  • The Definition of Positive Conflict.

Chapter Five:

  • Techniques for Positive Conflict.
  • What Your First Decision Should Be, and Why.
  • The Rules of Positive Conflict.
  • Positive Conflict Guerilla Tactics.

Chapter Six:

  • Conflicts With Yourself.
  • Dealing With Your Internal “Enemies”

Chapter Seven:

  • How to Fight Fair with your Spouse or Partner.
  • Common Causes of Conflict In Your Relationship.
  • What is Fair Fighting Exactly?

Chapter Eight:

  • Conflicts Within an Intercultural Marriage
  • Main Areas of Conflict in an Intercultural Marriage
  • How to Handle the Cultural Differences
  • Intercultural Assumptions and Illusions
  • Positive Conflict in an Intercultural Relationship

Verdict:

Conflict is probably the single most destructive force in marriage and family relationships today. Whether you are dealing with marriage conflicts, relationship issues or family stress, ‘Positive Conflicts’ will give you powerful insights and techniques to help you to handle conflict effectively and lessen stress in your family and life in general.

It will teach you the important ‘rules of engagement’ to help you to handle conflict positively so that your partner or spouse cannot help but respond in a less confrontational way.

I think everybody could learn something from this book as it is not just about marital conflicts but also all types of interpersonal conflicts. I can’t honestly say that it can help you to save your marriage as it is not specifically aimed at dealing with marital problems but relationships in general, but I suppose it could help to solve marriage problems as well.

However, it will also teach you something about yourself and how you react to other people at times of stress which can be useful in marital conflicts.

P.S. If you found this review helpful and would like to find out more about Positive Conflicts then you’re just a click away from doing so.
